We welcome partnerships with other nonprofit agencies, foundations, and philanthropic individuals who will join with us in promoting violence prevention and stable communities through tattoo removal and life skills counseling. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are happy to serve as either a lead agency or a subcontractor, and will work together with you to craft and write a grant proposal that will meet the needs of both our organizations.

Capacity:

Currently Sunrise Community Outreach Center holds 6-7 laser tattoo removal sessions/month at its Beverly/Alvarado office and is available to contract with outside agencies to provide weekly sessions at alternate locations. Our capacity could easily be increased if partner agencies required it. Two of our licensed nurse practitioners work part-time and would easily be able to increase their hours, and the office space and laser are available for additional sessions. Currently, each session lasts approximately 4 hours and serves 15 - 24 clients.

Funding:

Sunrise Community Outreach Center charges clients $65-$95 for a treatment of no more than 12-15 minutes. This is quite low cost, considering the high price to purchase and maintain laser equipment, and the necessity of hiring licensed and insured medical professionals. For nonprofit organizations or for grants, we would provide special pricing.

Alternatively, Sunrise Community Outreach could set up an entire session for a partner organization for $1200. This would serve an average of 20 clients at $60/treatment, even clients with relatively large tattoos or several medium-sized ones, up to 15 minutes of work. Clients with up to 30 minutes of work are charged as 2 treatments, but typically make up a very small percentage of overall clients. Lidocaine cream for numbing the skin, a fairly expensive item, would be available at minimal cost. As was mentioned above, tattoo removal generally requires at least 6-12 laser treatments at 4-6 week intervals. A contracted session each 5 weeks (10/yr) would cost approximately $12,000 annually and serve approximately 20 clients; two sessions each 5 weeks would cost approximately $24,000 and serve approximately 40 clients, etc. Such an arrangement would allow the use of the reception areas for workshops while clients were waiting for their appointments.

Life-Skills Counseling:

Since laser tattoo removal is a lengthy process, usually involving at least 6-12 laser treatments at 4-6 week intervals over a period of 1-2 years, there is time to develop a solid, trusting relationship with clients. Many clients have benefited from further life-skills counseling services at Sunrise Community Outreach Center. Such services include, but are not limited to assistance with:

  • resumes and job applications
  • enrollment into trade schools, community colleges and universities
  • advocacy and referrals in criminal, immigration, and family court matters
  • after-school and parenting options
  • referrals for health-related issues, including medical, dental and vision
  • issues relating to the Department of Motor Vehicles
  • substance abuse and anger management referral
